SUSAN ANNAND was utterly devastated when her car was written off in an accident But it was nothing to how she felt when her insurer refused to pay out, claiming she did not even own it.
She called me in after almost two months fighting with The Co-operative Insurance who insisted that the 4×4 had outstanding finance on it from a previous owner, so couldn’t be insured, despite Susan paying pounds 5500 for it privately in January.
Susan, 41, said: “It has sickened me and I think they fully expect me just to go away. There is no question that the car is mine. I handed over hard-earned cash for it.”
She bought the Land Rover Discovery from a lady in Dundee after spotting an online ad. Her fully comprehensive insurance policy for the 10-year-old motor cost pounds 449.99.
Susan, of Kettins, near Blairgowrie, Perthshire, said: “I signed up online in March. My flatmate is also on the documents as a named driver as we share the car. He borrows it when I’m not using it.”
But it was during one of her weekends away that the car was written off. Susan, a supermarket checkout operator, said: “I got a call from my flatmate to tell me that he’d hit a tree.
“He was heading back to the house on a country road and a bird hit the windscreen and he swerved to miss it.”
Susan contacted Co-op and they told her they’d have a garage collect the vehicle to repair it. Three days later she had heard nothing, so called the insurer again.
Susan explained: “The garage Co-op told me were collecting it knew nothing about it. A week later, the car was picked up.
“Co-op decided it was going to a breaker’s yard as it was not economical to repair. They refused to give me a courtesy car as the motor was being written off so I was forced to hire a vehicle to get to and from work. I’ve had to fork out pounds 330 in hire charges so far.”
When she heard nothing more, she contacted Co-op to complain and they told her the car was now being repaired. Susan said: “I phoned the garage

Press – A look at 5 key Chiefs positions
Sat ,31/07/20100 Comments | St. Joseph News – Press, Jul 24, 2010 | by Anonymous
Training camp is just a few days away, and local fans will get an intense, up-close look at the latest incarnation of the Chiefs.
But what should fans be watching for?
Here’s our take of the five most important positions to watch during practice.
Quarterback: Matt Cassel
Cassel is in his second year with the Chiefs, and he’s got a big- money contract. He performed at a near-Pro Bowl level while filling in for NFL MVP Tom Brady in 2008, but he struggled in his first year with the Chiefs.
He completed 55 percent of his passes and had 16 touchdowns with 16 interceptions in 2009.
If the Chiefs are going to grow into contenders, then Cassel must first grow into a play-making field general. If his touchdown-to- interception ratio goes from even to 2 touchdowns per INT, then expect Kansas City to make a run at the an AFC wild card playoff berth.
Offensive line: Branden Albert,
Casey Weigmann and company
The offensive line gave up 42 sacks in 2009 — probably much of the reason for Cassel’s struggles — and the running game was anemic.
Left tackle Branden Albert, a 2008 first-round draft pick, didn’t live up to expectations in 2009 following a solid rookie season. He’s still the likely starter at left tackle and, therefore, primarily responsible for preventing those sacks. Overall improvement on the offensive line rests on Albert’s progression and his ability to live up to the potential he showed as a rookie.
The Chiefs also likely improved with the addition of guard Ryan Lilja, who probably will play on the right side. Lilja, a Shawnee Mission Northwest High School and Kansas State graduate who played for Indianapolis, provides an immediate upgrade.
But the team still has a huge question mark at center. Rudy Niswanger started most games last year but generally appeared overmatched. Kansas City signed Casey Wiegmann, a former Chief who played in Denver the last couple of seasons, in an effort to shore up the position. But Wiegmann is 37 with 15 pro seasons under his belt — that’s a lot of wear and tear.
The line improved toward the end of the season after cutting used- up running back Larry Johnson and finding a playmaker in Jamaal Charles. But more improvement will be necessary if the Chiefs expect to improve on their 4-12 record.
Specialists: kicker Ryan Succop, punter Dustin Colquitt and the return game
Kickers have emerged as a team strength.
Colquitt routinely proves to be dynamic at changing the field position and giving the Chiefs an advantage. Colquitt averaged 45.4 yards a punt and boomed one for 70 yards last season. He had 41 punts downed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.
Succop, the last draft pick of the 2009 draft, was as close to automatic as it gets. He hit all 17 of his attempts inside 40 yards and was 23 of 24 from inside 50 yards.
The Chiefs also added some weapons in the return game. Two draft picks from this past offseason should add some energy

Future Edge: Discovering the New Paradigms of
Sat ,31/07/2010Future Edge: Discovering the New Paradigms of Success. New York: William Morrow and Company, Inc., 1992).
The Energy Field of Paradigms
Reading the energy in a paradigm is an efficient way to recognize its boundaries and density. Just as each person and each organization has an energy field, so too, each paradigm has an energy field. When paradigms conflict with each other, either a change is occurring or a change must occur. Changes within one paradigm do not occur in isolation — all interrelated paradigms change. We can observe the changes at all levels of the energy field as well as in the concrete.
It is more accurate to consider that a group or organization has many active paradigms than to define an organization as a single paradigm. Paradigms grow, just as people do. Therefore, paradigms may be immature, well-defined, aged, wise, silly, useful, outdated, ready for death, or dead.

We need not fear death — any kind of death.

Sentimental Journey A good mother
Sat ,31/07/20100 Comments | Daily Record; Wooster, Ohio, Jun 30, 2010 | by Lydia Gehring
She loved fashionable shoes, and had quite a collection, in size 4 1/2. She loved the color blue so much that she painted the interior of her first house entirely blue. She loved the blue sky and fluffy clouds. She loved glass bottles in cobalt blue and ruby red. She displayed them in the window of her second blue kitchen, where she admired the sun casting beams of rainbow light upon the floor. She loved reading biographies of famous politicians, like Richard Nixon. Her husband was once chairman of the democratic party. She was once a ballroom dancing instructor. She loved little white dogs and carefully painted fingernails. She loved dictionaries and used one often. She loved Emily Post. She loved an artistically- set table. She loved her natural silver hair. She loved her garden and enjoyed her membership in a garden club. She hosted our wedding reception in her own backyard garden. On our 21st anniversary, we chose what she would wear for the very last time.
I guess you could say I was lucky to have Martha as my mother-in- law. Not that we always saw things eye-to-eye. After all, I am a democrat who doesn’t particularly care for blue or beige, her other favorite color. But I knew I had a comrade-in-arms, someone who loved my children almost as much as I did.
When I was dating John, Martha took me to look at diamonds before he did. I figured that was a true stamp of approval. “Tell me what you’d like,” she said as she gestured toward the diamonds in the locked jewelry store cases. When he proposed a few months later, she said, “Just call me Mother.” So I did.
Her health was a battle for as long as I can remember. She had heart issues. She suffered cardiac arrest shortly after bypass surgery. That was when my son was 2 and my daughter a newborn. She fought her way back, even when the doctors told us she had no chance. I knew why. She just loved those babies.
I remember my husband’s phone call, just two weeks ago. Mother had fallen and fractured a hip, he said. She lived in the assisted living wing of the care center where she’d moved 18 months before due to declining health. We knew she had a tough road ahead of her if the hip was surgically repaired. But the alternative was unthinkable. Two hospitals OK’d the procedure. But still, we worried.
A few days before surgery, my husband and I took the children to see her at the Cleveland Clinic. She was in pain. She was confused. She was lonely. But she didn’t complain.
My daughter and I gave her a sponge bath. We washed her hair, too. We spooned beef stroganoff into her mouth while my husband rubbed her size 4 1/2 feet. She sipped root beer and nibbled chocolate ice cream

What is this thing called leadership? Prominent Australians tell their stories
Sat ,31/07/2010Journal of Management and Organization, Nov 2007 by Parry, Ken W
What is this thing called leadership? Prominent Australians tell their stories Neil C Cranston and Lisa Catherine Ehrlich (2007)
This book tells the leadership stories of ten prominent Australians –
Tim Costello – CEO of World Vision Australia, Baptist Minister and practising lawyer
Christine Nixon – the first female Commissioner of Police in Australia
Michael Kirby – Justice of the High Court of Australia and Companion of the Order of Australia
Linda Burney – a distinguished Aboriginal leader in education, reconciliation and indigenous issues, and the first Aboriginal in NSW Parliament
Peter Doherty – joint winner of the Nobel Prize in the Physiology of Medicine in 1996
Jim Soorley – former Lord Mayor of Brisbane
Fiona Wood – Director of the Western Australian Burns Unit and Australian of the Year in 2005
Ian Kiernan – established the first ‘Clean Up Australia’ in 1990 and Australian of the Year in 1994
Sarina Russo – CEO of he Russo group of companies
Maggi Sietsma – founder of Expressions dance company in Brisbane
Being able to interview all ten is a remarkable achievement in itself. From someone who has done this, I can tell you that it is hard work yet at the same time a rewarding and enjoyable experience for any author.
These authors are prominent education academicians at Brisbane Universities: Neil Cranston is Associate Professor in the School of Education at the University of Queensland; Lisa Catherine Ehrich is with the School of Learning and Professional Studies at Queensland University of Technology. Both have impressive careers in the disciplines of leadership, in particular educational leadership. Understandably perhaps, they present an educational tone as much as a business tone with the writing of this book.
The foreword is by Peter Thompson, presenter for the Australian Broadcasting Commission’s ‘Talking Heads’ television program, and a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand School of Governance. Thompson provides a useful introduction to the concept of an ‘Australian’ leadership model. He too has interviewed many prominent Australians, and provides a useful insight, from his perspective, of what these people contribute to leadership in Australia

Sat ,31/07/2010In the article, Syed Quadri, an employee of St. Charles, IL-based smoke detector manufacturer System Sensor, praises the merits of the employer-assisted housing (EAH) program he enjoys through a cooperative effort between System Sensor and MPC.
As a System Sensor employee of more than five years, Quadri recently fulfilled his retention commitment to his employer that was a condition of the $5,000 forgivable loan he received to help him buy a house for his family of six. Quadri now lives so close to his employer, he can walk to work when it?s warm. It?s a win-win situation for System Sensor, too: By offering EAH to eligible employees, System Sensor improves its recruitment package for potential hires and experiences greater retention and morale for participating employees.
System Sensor was the first employer in Illinois to offer EAH in 1999.

Many women choose to
Thu ,29/07/2010Many women choose to change the size and shape of their breasts to enhance the natural contours of their body.
There are several types of breast implants. The saline-filled implant has a silicone shell that is filled with sterile saline liquid. These implants are currently available in the United State, but future regulations may make them more available. Silicone gel implants are silicone shells filled with silicone gel. Because these types of implants are used in around 60 countries, they account for about 90% of all implant operations. String implants are a much less common type of implant. String implants are unique because they cause the breast to continue to expand after surgery. These types of implants are commonly used by women who want to have the largest breasts possible.

Thu ,29/07/2010They can mulch or side-discharge the lawn clippings. Check the riding mower to see how easy or difficult it is to switch the mode on the mower. Some garden tractors might need additional attachments to switch between these modes.
If you want more visibility at the front of your mower, choose a mower with the engine at the back. But, again, consider your needs. If you need a more powerful engine, then choose a front-mounted engine; they are more powerful.
Some surveys of owners have found that ride-on mowers have the worst reliability of all major appliances. Therefore, experts recommend buying a good warranty so you?re covered if you have problems.
There are various other things to think about when considering the purchase of a garden tractor.
